Dog Tags
Dog tags are fantastic fashion accessories for the fashion conscious person. Although called dog tags, this is a misnomer.
They are military id tags, but popularly referred to as dog tags because of their resemblances to dog tags for dogs. Like with the military the pet dog tag is designed to enable the owner of the animal to be identified and contacted should the animal get lost or cause some trouble.
Originally created and still used today as a convenient and readily accessible way to identify a soldier, and some basic other information. For example in the US the tag will typically contain the soldier’s name, blood type, social security number, and religion. some medical information and their next of kin.
However, there has always a been a been of fascination with the military, and so a fashion has been created out of military clothing and accessories. Dog tags, or military ID tags are one of those items related to the military that have become huge fashion icons. Some people wear them because they feel it makes them look more confident or hard. And others wear it simply because they like the way it looks.
As these tags are not real military tags, the information contained on them do not need to contain personal information. Of course you can have one made out with carbon copy personal information if you want to. But mostly, they will contain just your name, or a favourite quote, or a name of a loved one.
Having dog tags with personal information when going out on an extreme sports or activity trips may be a good idea, as if you do have an accident, it may be vital for someone to be able to quickly identify you.
